When you ask a mathematician to divide by zero, you will get one of two answers.

  1.  This is serious business.  You can’t do that!
  2. As the denominator approaches zero, the resultant approaches infinity.

The Divide by Zero is about me and my family’s goal to disprove #1 and experience #2.

We are a married couple with three children.  Mr. Zero is 43 years old.  Mrs. Zero is perpetually 29.  Really she doesn’t look a day over 25.  We both grew up in predominantly blue collar families that were not starving, but certainly not without money concerns.   We started our marriage with negative net worth, but boundless optimism that we would live life to the fullest.  In our 18 years of marriage, we have lived in Europe, Asia and multiple states across the US.  Because of our experiences, we are open minded and probably what some americans might call “liberal” (Don’t get us started on the US health care system), but our feathers tend to ruffle at simplistic labels.    We are currently living in Asia.  We have lived here for 7 years and plan to be here for 9.

At the end of our expat assignment and when we obtain financial independence, our dream is to buy a sailboat and do some extended cruising with our children before they head off into the wide world.  After the kids are independent, Mrs. Zero and I also have a mile long list of adventures on our bucket list that we plan to tackle in order of physical difficulty.

In the meantime, we are blogging about our financial journey, strategies and actions as we move closer to financial independence, thoughts on life in general, a few adventures and of course dreams for the future.  Hope you enjoy or maybe even get some inspiration.  Thanks for reading!
